30 Home Projects to Tackle this Weekend

[ad_1]

Many of you might be in the same boat as me, having our dear friend procrastination (or, you know, good old anxiety) come in the way of achieving greatness—in this case, looking after our homes to the best of our abilities. As much as we don’t want to admit it to ourselves, we all likely have a laundry list of home projects to check off and vision board ideas to finally manifest into reality that just can’t seem to get done.

Well, get ready, because that’s about to change. It’s high time you and I both give our respective homes the pampering they deserve and the chance to let them live their best lives—because like us, they deserve that. Even if you’re starting to go back out into the world, having an elegant sanctuary to come home to is truly the best form of therapy; it’s all the more reason to take on some projects to improve it as much as we can. To help transform your house or apartment, here are 30 of the best home projects and DIYs you can tackle this weekend.

Long-Awaited Tasks to Check Off Your List:

1. Organize your kitchen and bathroom drawers/cabinets

I’ll be frank, this is something I dread doing and always put off for months when getting it done actually only takes a couple of hours (I roll my eyes at myself after I’m done).

For the kitchen, begin by sorting out your mail/junk drawer, and shred any papers, letters, and receipts you no longer need. Look through all other drawers to organize similar things like silverware, take-out menus, or stationary. For your bathroom or vanity, go through your makeup drawer and beauty cabinets to toss out anything old and expired, swatch your makeup to decide whether or not you want to keep something, and bring in some organizers to make everything nice and neat.

Some organizations to donate any beauty or hygiene products to:

2. Clean your makeup brushes

We all love to hate doing this, but now is the perfect time to give our makeup brushes a nice little beauty sesh of their own. As we enter back into the world, it’s finally time to sanitize the brushes that haven’t been used in so long. These fellas hold a ton of bacteria and buildup, which can often cause our skin to do less-than-ideal things. So if you haven’t made it a habit to clean your brushes regularly, now’s the best time to start.

3. Deep clean your bathroom and kitchen

It’s been ingrained in our minds how important it is these days to keep sanitizing and disinfecting our homes, but you should definitely take the time to move beyond that and dive in deeper. Get into all those spots you’ve been pretending are fine (but are really Ross Geller’s version of “fine”): Scrub down your shower, tub, bathroom and kitchen sinks, drains, toilets, cabinets, and kitchen appliances. Toss those bath and kitchen mats into the washer, shiny up those wood floors, and top it all off with a nice vacuuming. This will honestly double as a workout too, and you’ll end your cleaning ritual with a rush of endorphins and, ultimately, the most satisfying sense of calm.

4. Clear your fridge and pantry of expired/stale foods

You may have stocked up on a ton of food lately, which might have caused your pantry and refrigerator to look like they’re overflowing. Take some time to dig through the stuff that is sitting in the back and toss out any expired foods or opened bags/containers of food you know you won’t finish. If you have any unopened, unexpired, and non-perishable foods left that you feel can be spared for those in need, don’t hesitate to find a local food bank or organization to donate to.

5. Start an herb garden in time for the season

For those of you who love cooking at home and are avid herb enthusiasts (myself included), this is a great time to create your own herb garden! Many grocery stores and hardware stores sell herb seeds and small plants that can quickly blossom and thrive—or you can also order them online. Whether it be a good chunk of square footage in your yard, a nice section in your balcony, or even a collection of small pots on your windowsill, there are tons of ways to get fresh herbs growing in and around your home.

6. Paint that accent wall you’ve been thinking about forever

Got that wall or two in your home that you’ve been musing up ideas for? You might want to add in some accent colors, paint all your interiors a crisp neutral, or even opt for some amazing wallpaper—and now is the perfect time to do so. Many times, these tasks can be intimidating, but worry not: We have a thorough guide on how to achieve your ideal look safely and successfully

7. Sort out your wardrobe

As Everygirls, we love our fashion. We love finding some amazing new seasonal trends to wear and capsule wardrobes to curate—but with that comes the responsibility of having to declutter and reorganize our existing collection of items. Start by going through all of the things you own and tossing them into “keep,” “donate,” and “toss” (for items that have been heavily worn out) piles. Then, organize what’s left by color, function, season, or whatever works best for you. For donations, some amazing organizations to send to are:

8. Give your outerwear some TLC

Outerwear truly goes through some of the toughest times, from dog walks that end in enough fur flown onto me to create an entire new dog to getting salt/snow/dirt stains all over my dark boots. Take some extra time to lay out all of your wool coats and puffers, lint roll and depill them, and freshen them up with some fabric spray. Give your shoes some love by polishing them and thoroughly scrubbing out the muddied bits.

9. Have a spa day for your dog

Got mounds of fur flying all around your home? That’s a clear sign that it’s time to give your dog a grooming. Depending on your pooch’s personality, to them, this might come as either a pampering and luxurious experience, the most mundane thing in the world, or a chance to make you their worst enemy. Whatever it is, your pups can get a bit of a glam session at home since a groomer can sometimes get pricey. Clip their little nails, give them a subtle trim to freshen up their coat, wash them with some sudsy shampoo and conditioner, and top it off with a nice blow dry. They’ll be wagging their tails again in no time.
